We are operating in uncharted waters right now. There is a lot of fear and confusion and many of us are trying to get our arms around what is next and what we should be focusing on. A few things to consider:
Plan: While no plan is perfect and we will need to be nimble to respond in this changing environment, start planning. What does the current situation mean to your business and your go-to-market strategy? What clients can you be reaching out to now to ensure they have everything they need? What internal changes in your organization or new technology will you need to embrace? Get it down on paper and discuss it with your management team. Come up with a plan and start acting on it. Then keep checking it to ensure it is still viable and make changes as needed.
Communicate: Be clear in your communications and check-in frequently with your team. Uncertainty yields fear so try to eliminate as much of that uncertainty as you can. Some of these discussions may be difficult. Share what you can. A good leader is honest, humble, and straightforward.
Direct: People may be looking to you for direction; give it to them. Let them know the plan and what their part is. Keep it simple and make sure you have a good feedback loop to work through challenges as they come up.
Stay safe and keep moving.
